In our practice of pilates here at Pilates Powerhouse & Yoga Center – we follow the STOTT PILATES® approach. Which preserves the essence of Joseph Pilates’ teachings while enhancing them with contemporary knowledge about the body and how it functions. Its exercises safely deliver optimal strength, flexibility and endurance without adding bulk. Unlike the original series of exercises, STOTT PILATES incorporates modern exercises principles, including contemporary thinking about spinal rehabilitation and performance enhancement. For example, unlike the original approach which promotes a flat back, STOTT PILATES exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. They also place more emphasis on scapular stabilization. As well, there are more preparatory exercises and modifications to make this method safer and more effective for everyone’s body.
Our approach to Yoga is similar to that of our pilates philosophy – movement and alignment. We practice Hatha, Iyengar and Anusara Yoga. We use our approach to assist in our post-rehab work that we do with clients ! Today more than ever it’s so important to include a daily Yoga practice – it’ll promote health and spiritual growth.
